What actually happen during " ism "?
Modernism:

Have you ever wondered like how did Modernism came into or lives or what actually happen during modernism?!  This question would seem clearer after understanding the key developments of modernism, which are often explained architecturally. It was the dominance moment over craft and design, the results were corruption and greed among the pioneers of modernism. After that a new approach to reform society by developing well-design products for daily usage. It was also an encouragement towards the need for functionality and simplicity. Not only that, they also stressed that the moral values of designers should be producing goods they were alike! These could be used as a democratic tool for social change.

Let’s take the table lamp of Wilhelm Wagenfeld, it’s simply a famous nickel silver and glass created by Bauhaus. They were famous for their industrial products that appear alike, however they were all handcrafted. Modernism concept is simply a desire to exploit the most advance material there is and technology to express the simple forms, smooth finishing and the use of white space.

Postmodernism :

What happen after modernism was postmodernism of course ! however have you ever wondered like what actually happen during that movement ? In respond to that question, postmodernism is simply the merge of fine art and mass culture.

Fast forwarding to the late 1970s and early 1980s, designers started to broaden their visuals by breaking the established rules by post-industrial society as they sense that it’s no longer relevant. They explored multiple styles, periods and even cultures. This revolt was led by Wolfgang Weingart whose approach had led to multiple posters that appear as complex, playful and chaotic.
Let’s take the “I Love NY” campaign by Milton Glaser as an example, the decorative qualities appear as humorous and playful.

Postmodernism boundaries were pushed by Memphis to this day, despite the short span it played an important role in internationalized postmodernism

There are multiple brands out there that embraced these simple forms which is Muji. They are well known for their simplicity in their products and packaging. Entry 4: The new avant garde literature

Do you know what it is ?!! “The new avant grarde literature” know as postmodernism, the term itself was born around 1970s from scepticism and suspicion that challenges the notion of the universal certainties and reality. The movement itself is simply a reaction against the essence of modernism and it’s known to embraced the complexity of meaning based on experiences of every individual. It simply drew a line on philosophy during the late twentieth century and it supports every individual experiences was more a concrete rather than abstract principles. To certain extent the movement itself had defies the definition as there is not one particular postmodern style or theory, as it has embraced multiple approaches toward art making in which it has collapsed the distinction between high culture and mass culture of our everyday life. It simply broke the rules about styles and from here we know that the era of freedom has begun. References: Tate. A. (2019). Modernism. [onlin...
