How is it even relatable to today ?!!
The question of the entire topic of this blog is that which ‘ism’ should designer favour more? In order to answer the question, we need to dive into the later applications of modernism and postmodernism to prove to us which ‘ism’ should be favour more.
Modernism :
Remember when I explained about the key developments of modernism? “Modernism concept is simply
a desire to exploit the most advance material there is and technology to
express the simple forms, smooth finishing and the use of white space.”
Sounds familiar? Modernism concept has its similarities with Minimalism. They are both famous for simplicity, cleanliness, and the value of empty spaces.
Let’s take Sam Hecht Muji phone for an example. From the image it’s obvious that this product has met all the criteria of the elements.
Postmodernism:
Remember when I explained about the key developments of postmodernism? Let’s
take Glaser “I Love NY” campaign as an example, the decorative qualities appear
to be humorous and playful in which it’s somewhat similar with the later applications
of Memphis. For example, the Kozmo Blocks by Karim Rashid, even though the
blocks come in various colors but it gives off a playful mood to it.
